Have you heard of Take 5 bars?
If not, let me tell you, they are the best candy…ever. They have become challenging to find, at least in DC, and so I’ve been experimenting with different ways to recreate them.
What are they you ask? They are a salty sweet treat comprised of peanut butter, peanuts, pretzels, and caramel, enveloped in delicious milk chocolate.
And so, I give you these little nuggets of deliciousness:
What you’ll need to make them:
Bag of square pretzels
Caramel sauce (store-bought, or view this post to make your own!)
Chocolate (I used half of a 5 pound extra dark chocolate bar from Trader Joe’s, but chocolate chips, or any type of chocolate pieces, will do)
First, line a baking sheet or two with aluminum foil. Then, you’ll need to melt your chocolate. Place the chocolate into a microwave safe bowl. Put it in the microwave for about 2 minutes, and stir every 30 seconds. Once the chocolate it totally melted, you’re ready for the next step. (NOTE: it’s important not the burn the chocolate! As long as you check it and stir it at 30 second intervals, you should be all set.)
Now, take a pretzel. Spread on some peanut butter. Dollop on a small blob of caramel. Take another pretzel and smoosh it on top of the peanut butter and caramel, to make a little sandwich. Dip the pretzel sandwich about halfway in the chocolate and then roll in the crushed peanuts.
Place it on the foil-lined pan. And repeat! To make them harden faster, you can put them in the fridge. They’ll take about an hour to firm up.
You can make as many or as few as you want! I’ll tell ya though, they are addicting! I brought them to a party and they were devoured. Always a good sign!
I hope you enjoy!
