Bacon, Bourbon, Beer, Live Bluegrass, and Mechanical Bull riding, all in one place, for one night only!

I’m talking about this year’s Bacon & Bourbon Festival. Hosted by the Washington City Paper and held at Longview Gallery, this event abounded with delicious bacon-inspired dishes, paired with numerous bourbons and whiskeys  to taste.

It was a great turnout!

There were definitely standout dishes. My favs were:

Jack Rose‘s Bourbon Poached Scallop:

Bayou Bakery‘s  Salted Caramel Peanut Popcorn with Benton’s Bacon, served up by none other than David Guas himself! (Chef & Owner). I love popcorn.

GBD Doughnut‘s Maple Bacon Doughnuts. A little sweet, and little savory, amazing combination:

And then, there’s my personal, absolute favorite food of the evening. Created by Pearl Dive, this dessert combined brownie, ice cream, peanut butter, bacon, bourbon, and toffee. All in one. Truly, if I could choose any dessert to have at any time, this would be it. Big statement, I know, but it was THAT incredible.

Moving into the booze, my favorite was The Bone cocktail from Founding Farmers. The simple combination of Knob Creek Whiskey, lime juice, and tabasco tasted anything but simple. Shaken up by Beverage Director Jon Arroyo, alongside Farmers, Fishers, and Bakers’ Jesse Raines:

Oh, and it’s served with a bacon lolli. A what? A piece of cinnamon brown sugar glazed bacon = bacon lolli. Umm, YUM!

The most unique booze sample was the Quinoa Whiskey. It had a distinct flavor, and even a hint of the quinoa nuttiness. Super cool to try.

Not only were there copious amounts of food and booze at this event, but there was also a kickass live bluegrass band:

And, how could one forget, the mechanical bull!

I hope this becomes an annual event, because it was an amazing idea / combination of activities. Keep on the lookout for the next one! You won’t want to miss it.
