What a Foodie-filled weekend for the DC metro area! Toast of the Town on Friday, Alexandria’s Food & Wine Festival on Saturday, and the Safeway BBQ Battle Saturday & Sunday!! I didn’t make it to the BBQ battle this year; however I did go last year. Highlights for me were some AMAZING BBQ pulled pork, as well as deeelicious fried Oreos. If you’ve never tried fried Oreos, you are missing out- they are spectacular! I dare you to try them and tell me what you think!
I DID go to Toast of the Town and Alexandria’s Food & Wine Festival!
First up, Wine Enthusiast‘s Toast of the Town in DC— a huge, lovely gala held in The National Building Museum, featuring hundreds of wines from around the world and food from 35 of DC’s top restaurants. All for attendees to taste! Oh and a live band too!
I got completely wept away by the wine, music, and tasty bites. I admit that I didn’t really keep track of the wines I was tasting, I just went around enjoying various reds and whites.
BUT, I did keep track of the delicious tastes at the outstanding restaurants!
P.J. Clarke’s Mini Cheeseburgers! Very flavorful-tasting burgers
Rosa Mexicano‘s Guac & Chips!
The Capital Grille’s Kona Coffee-Rubbed Tenderloin. so good! And they brought a heat lamp, so their meat was nice and warm.
Station 4‘s Pork Belly! I could have eaten many of these bites. Very tasty! And it went well with the Cab wine at the table next to it!
The Silver Diner‘s Crab Cakes! I am a huge crab cake fan, and these were AWESOME!! I had two 🙂
Maggiano‘s Rigatoni with chicken, mushrooms, caramelized onions, and marsala cream sauce. The sign said masala, not marsala, but a masala sauce is typically used for Indian dishes, so I’m guessing they meant Marsala instead– made with Marsala wine. Not sure though! Regardless, it was absolutely delicious!! I would order this at their restaurant any day.
Fuel’s BBQ Chicken Pizza. They also had little cinnamon/sugar doughy bites. As a sweets lover, I definitely enjoyed them!
I also had a pulled pork sandwich from Tonic, various dips and spreads from Cava Mezze, and chocolate-drizzled strawberries and marshmallows from The Melting Pot. All were tasty! I really love Cava Mezze’s dips, particularly the spicy hummus. AND you can buy them at Whole Foods! How convenient!
I heard that Bastille had amazing Chocolate Foie Gras Truffles, but they were gone when I got there! They must have been as good and decadent as they sound. I hope to try them someday soon on my own!
Any finally, my savior of the evening…
…cocktails!! An amazing concoction from Ping Pong, consisting of cognac and fresh lime juice, infused with vanilla chili sugar. I had multiple tastes of this refreshing beverage. I like wine, but I LOVE cocktails! Next time I am at their restaurant, I will surely be ordering this drink!
When leaving the event, we got awesome “goodie bags,” complete with a wine opener, 6-bottle wine tote, wine glass pens, a couple of Wine Enthusiast Magazines, and other fun wino swag!
It was truly a great event & exciting evening! I left happy, relaxed, and perfectly smitten.
Can’t wait for next year!!
Shout out to Hallie Forman for asking me to go to the event!!
